Climb

The first free bird was just getting started. All his hopes were high. With his chin up, puffed chest and shine in his eye, he took that first step.

The second free bird got stuck in between fears and doubts. He’d stumbled now, and struggled to get up, but in his head the desire to continue bellowed out. Looking back in fear, but willed to stare straight up, he figured it was not enough. He’d have to keep going. One step back, two steps forward, and off once more he was rolling.

The third free bird led the way, though the end seemed foggy. He carried a big weight and was now feeling groggy. Behind him, he felt the wind of the world catching up, almost as if to take him down, so he’d fall with a big thump. He stared down at those last steps, his confidence wobbly.

The last free bird was soaring the skies, but was sure to look down and call for the others to try. Take another step, don’t worry, keep climbing! If they fell, and sometimes they did, that last free bird was there to help. Coming back down, kindly smiling, the last free bird set them up to keep fighting. To them he’d say,

Chin up, puff your chest, and take that first step.

You’ve got a shine in your eye, and with it, nothing can stop you.

Believe you can, and just like that, you will fly.
